ACCESSIBLE PERFORMANCES
ACCESSIBLE-SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE DATES
Here at Carousel Theatre for Young People, we are working hard to provide different types of accessible performances for each of our shows throughout the seasons. To find out more about ASL-Interpretation shows, Relaxed Performance shows, Mask-Mandatory shows and VocalEye Described Shows, please scroll to the bottom of the page.
Sadly, due to the constraints of our schedules and the organizations we are working with, not all performances will have all types of access-specific performances. If there is a way we can make these shows more accessible for you and your child outside of these three types of access-specific performance modes and our general access standards (read below) please let us know! We would love to learn more and are open to listening to the accessibility needs of our theatregoers.
We accept Access 2 cards! For more information and how to book with an Access 2 card, please contact us via phone or email -

MORE ABOUT ACCESS AT CTYP
GENERAL PERFORMANCES
At all performances, Carousel is working to create an accessible environment for as many theatregoers as possible. If you have any accessibility needs, including an Access2 Pass or wheelchair/mobility device accessibility needs, please feel free to email CTYP at info@carouseltheatre.ca or call our Box Office Line at 604-685-6217 and we would be more than happy to discuss how we can meet your accessibility needs.
Carousel Theatre has a relaxed come-and-go policy. If for any reason you or your child need to leave the theatre for a moment, our Front of House Staff will work to escort you back into the theatre as soon as possible, though potentially not back to your exact spot.
RELAXED PERFORMANCES
Relaxed or Sensory-Friendly Performances are specifically crafted for people who benefit from a more relaxed theatre environment, including autistic children, and children with sensory and/or communication disorders. These performances create a welcoming, accessible, and comfortable theatre environment for everyone. The performances feature modified sound and lighting effects, flexible general admission seating, an empathetic welcoming atmosphere, and pre-show family resources.
ASL-INTERPRETED PERFORMANCES
ASL performances feature live ASL interpreters on stage for our deaf and hard of hearing patrons. For information on how to book, feel free to email us at info@carouseltheatre.ca
Carousel is currently working to ensure that we have performances that are accessible for our D/deaf & Hard of Hearing (HOH) community. As we continue to set dates for shows that are ASL-interpreted we will update our community as soon as possible.
LIVE DESCRIPTION - VOCAL EYE PERFORMANCES
VocalEye’s described performances for the Blind & Low Vision community begin ten minutes before the show, with a brief introduction to the characters, costumes and locations. Once the show begins, important visual details and physical actions are described between the lines of dialogue. All descriptions are voiced live and in real-time by a trained Describer.
Only VocalEye users can hear the description through a small handheld receiver and single earpiece that can be worn on either ear. Equipment can be picked up from the VocalEye table in the lobby up to one hour before the show starts. Users are welcome to bring their own earbuds or portable headphones.
Please call or email CTYP to book your VocalEye ticket at 604-685-6217 or info@carouseltheatre.ca
MASK MANDATORY PERFORMANCES
On the FIRST SATURDAY show of almost every production , CTYP will be holding “Mask Mandatory” Accessible Performances for our immunocompromised and disabled patrons, and anyone who feels more comfortable in a mask mandated space. All audience members will be REQUIRED to wear a mask for the entire duration of the show.
