About Carousel Theatre for Young PEople
Carousel Theatre for Young People empowers young people and families through playful, imaginative, and accessible theatre experiences that develop emotional literacy.
CTYP acknowledges that we create and perform on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
We are honoured and very fortunate to work and play on this beautiful land. The Carousel team stands in solidarity with the Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island and recognizes these nations and their people – both recorded and unrecorded – are the original, current, and future caretakers of the lands on which we live and work.
CTYP is committed to engaging in conversations regarding Indigenous Justice, Truth & Reconciliation, and Accountability at all levels, and is dedicated continually working towards bringing these conversations to young people through our programming.

Our Story
Carousel Theatre for Young People (CTYP) is a gathering place for young people, families and artists to embark on a journey where boundless imagination, a dash of magic and an abundance of play are the recipe for a magical theatrical adventure that has lasting impact. We have been creating theatre for young people since our inception in 1976. Located on Granville Island in the heart of Vancouver, CTYP is Vancouver’s mainstage TYA company.
Our Vision
Carousel Theatre for Young People (CTYP) empowers young people and families through meaningful, imaginative, and accessible theatrical experiences. The productions we create and present engage youth, families, and educators in live theatre and platform stories for and about communities that are underrepresented; they develop emotional literacy, stimulate community, encourage growth, and inspire minds in a unifying experience. CTYP focuses on introducing young minds to new ideas and enabling them to talk about them.
At CTYP, Young people are not simply audience members at CTYP; they are active participants at the very centre of all that we do. The vibrant stories we stage engage young people from the beginning of their development, challenge them through their formative years, and empower them to become agents of positive change, and arts patrons and professionals of the future.
Our playful approach to creation and collaboration, unwavering commitment to outstanding production values, and our joyful attentiveness to mentoring emerging theatre artists are key principles of our artistic practice. From our mainstage season of plays, through our teen programming, our annual Family Flame event, and our Club Carousel: Baby Raves, we continue to offer a wide array of theatrical possibilities.
CTYP’s exuberant and robust year-round drama school teaches young people ages 3-17 to express their creativity and individuality through the theatrical form.
Theatre for young audiences can genuinely, incrementally, change the world, and we take great care in how we program a season to be an inspiration in the world we present.
