THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST IN WORKING WITH CTYP!
We are a professional theatre company, and as a member of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres, we engage professional actors, directors, choreographers, and stage members under the terms of the Canadian Theatre Agreement.
Most of the actors, directors and choreographers we work with are members of Canadian Actors’ Equity Association. We also work with designers, many of whom are members of Associated Designers of Canada. Many of our playwrights are members of Playwrights Guild of Canada, and many of our technicians are members of IATSE.
JOIN THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Help shape the future of one of Vancouver’s most joyful, inclusive, and impactful theatre companies.
Carousel Theatre for Young People (CTYP) creates theatre experiences that inspire, involve, and educate young people. For nearly 50 years, CTYP has produced award-winning mainstage shows, facilitated vibrant drama camps, and offered fun and safe teen programming —all grounded in values of playfulness, accessibility, artistic integrity, empathy, mentorship, and community.
Based on Granville Island, CTYP reaches thousands of young people and families across the region each year.
We are seeking passionate, committed, and skilled individuals to join our volunteer Board of Directors to help us continue to grow and steward our mission.
Bring your experience to one of Vancouver’s most imaginative youth-focused arts organizations and support a small but mighty organization to expand its reach and impact.
What You'll Do:
- Guide strategic planning and organizational sustainability.
- Play a vital role in CTYP’s fundraising efforts by actively participating in and supporting initiatives that sustain programs and expand impact. As a board member, engagement in fundraising is essential to CTYP’s success and long-term viability.
- Contribute your voice to budgeting, HR, strategic initiatives and planning, and policy decisions.
- Help grow partnerships with businesses, donors, or civic agencies.
- Champion CTYP in your networks as an ambassador for youth arts.
Consider Joining CTYP’s Board If:
- You are excited to contribute your ideas, time, and energy to a creative and community-driven organization.
- You care deeply about empowering children and families through the arts.
- You are skilled in communications, business development, HR, finance, or marketing.
- You are drawn to community-based work and long-term impact.
- You bring a unique perspective or lived experience that can help shape inclusive and equitable leadership.
- You have previous board experience at a nonprofit or are interested in learning more about nonprofit governance, strategy, or community engagement.
- You value collaboration, curiosity, and innovation in how you work with others and approach challenges.
Board Commitment:
- An average monthly commitment of 8 hours, consisting of both scheduled meetings and follow-up work.
- One 75-120 minute board meeting every two months plus participation in one Board committee; approximately 1 hour a month.
- Attendance at a minimum of 2 show openings per year, with additional participation in programming encouraged wherever feasible.
- Participation in 3-5 fundraising initiatives annually.
- Board members are expected to make an annual cash donation to the organisation to the best of their financial ability, at a level they would consider generous and reflect that CTYP is a philanthropic priority for them.

We are actively working to address and combat racism (including anti-Indigeneity, anti-Blackness, and anti-Asianness), religious discrimination, xenophobia, homophobia and transphobia, sexism and misogyny, and ableism.
The responsibility to create and maintain an inclusive, accessible, and anti-oppressive environment is shared by every member of the CTYP community—including our Board of Directors.
